Is The Menthol In Earthpaste Natural?
Menthol is a derivative of oils found in mint plants - typically, peppermint. For companies who don't care too much about natural products, there are plenty of synthetic processes available to product cheap menthol. But natural products matter a lot here at Redmond, so the menthol they use is naturally derived.

Nature Has It Right
A phrase like "naturally derived" sounds a bit like marketing trickery, so let's lay it out. Redmond uses menthol produced without chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides. The menthol they use is planted, harvested, and distilled using traditional, natural methods. No chemicals, nothing artificial. Nature has it right.

Why Is It In There?
Wintergreen and Peppermint Earthpaste each have small amount of menthol - about one third of one percent of the recipe. It's not much, but it goes a long ways to prevent bacteria, and it leaves you with that fresh, clean sensation after brushing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did they create Earthpaste?
Because they couldn't find a toothpaste that they felt good about using for themselves and their families that also worked great. Even many natural toothpaste brands have added things like fluoride, glycerin, foaming agents, and chemical preservatives

What is the problem with fluoride?
When it comes to minerals, form is the key. Many health experts agree that the sodium fluoride added to water supplies and toothpaste is toxic and should be avoided. This is why toothpastes with fluoride have a warning advising to call poison control if more than a small amount is swallowed.

What is the problem with glycerin?
Among other things, glycerin is the base for many liquid soaps and on the body isn't a problem. However, in the mouth, glycerin creates a coat or film that won't rinse away. Many natural dentists say this glycerin film on teeth can prevent the teeth from being able to remineralize thereby weakening the teeth.

What is the problem with foaming agents such as SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate)?
Among other things, foaming agents such as SLS are said to have a drying effect on the mouth which can increase mouth acidity. These chemicals are also known to cause membrane disruption and trauma in the mouth leading to canker sores.

Why so few ingredients?
Because they believe there is power in nature and in simplicity

What is the source of the xylitol?
They only source non-GMO certified xylitol that is made from birch and/or corn cobs

What is the source of essential oil?
This wintergreen and cinnamon essential oils come from Madagascar and Shri Lanka. The peppermint essential oil come from Washington. While not certified organic, they are considered wild-crafted.

Does Earthpaste feel different in the mouth?
Yes. Because Earthpaste contains no foaming agents, it will feel thin in your mouth compared to foaming toothpastes. However, you will soon realize the foam is unnecessary.

What is the pH of Earthpaste?
On initial tests the pH has been between 9.6-9.7

Will it whiten my teeth?
They don't make any specific dental claims in regard to anti-cavity or whitening. The feedback from customers and oral health professionals has been very positive.
